That’s what it’s all about for the Reds now. Tick the wins off one-by-one until they’re over the line. Four more should do it, five guarantees it.
Waiting. Liverpool had 17 days without a football match, having lost two in a row before Wednesday night. It was the Reds’ longest gap without a game within a single season since April 2023 (also 17 days). It was 25 days since their last league game, and indeed last win.
Waiting. Liverpool had been stuck on 99 wins over Everton in all competitions since October 2023. Finally, they got to 100 - just the second opponent the Reds have defeated a century of times in their history.
Waiting. Everton forced Liverpool to be patient during the game as well. It wasn’t until the 57th minute that the only goal of the game was scored, with Liverpool well on top but not creating bucket loads of chances against a packed back line of sticky Toffees.
It’s worth mentioning that Liverpool haven’t scored in the first half of any of their last five games in all competitions - the club’s longest run since March 2021, when they went a rather ridiculous 10 games without a goal in the opening 45 minutes.
With fans actually in attendance, it’s the longest run since February 2017 (also 5), during Jürgen Klopp’s first full season in charge. It’s a bit of a concerning trend that Arne Slot will surely like to fix.
